FAQ

About Clean Eats

How did Clean Eats start?

We’ve all been there – we tell ourselves “this one donut won’t make a difference” or “I’ll eat candy now but I’ll make sure to eat a salad later”, but the reality is, every single thing we put into our bodies has a direct impact on how we feel, and eating foods devoid of nutrients isn’t doing us any favours.

So Clean Eats originally began as a tiny little idea in the back of my mind when I adopted the paleo diet and realized that good, wholesome snacks are hard to find and therefore make the diet rather inconvenient for regular people who live busy lives.

Luckily, I happen to love researching and experimenting with recipes in the kitchen so it was a fun challenge for me to live the paleo lifestyle. I then decided I should “take one for the team” (so to speak) and committed myself to supplying awesome healthy snacks to some of the less culinarily-inclined people out there who still want to make good food choices. You’re welcome!

Who runs Clean Eats and where is my food coming from?

Clean Eats is currently a one woman operation (Hey there!) although I sometimes use “we” on this site because I like to think of the clean eating community as one big happy family. The company is run from Laval, Quebec (Canada) and all orders ship from this location as well.

So...what is clean eating?

In short, Clean eating is the elimination of processed foods, refined grains and refined sugars from your everyday diet. Find out more about clean eating on the Clean Eats blog.

What is the difference between clean eating and eating paleo?

The paleo diet is actually very similar to clean eating on many aspects. Although most of the principles are the same, the paleo diet goes further by also cutting out all grains, legumes and dairy products.  Find out more on the Clean Eats blog.

The Products

How long do your products last?

If stored properly, cookies will last 3 months, whereas energy bites, spiced nuts and granola will last 4 months….Although they’re so delicious that they probably won’t last that long! To maintain optimal freshness, it is recommended to keep the granola and the spiced nuts in the refrigerator once opened.

How should these products be stored?

The granola and spiced nuts should be stored in a cool, dry place (your cupboards are surely fine) if they are unopened, and in the refrigerator once opened. The cookies and sweet treats will last longer if stored in the refrigerator, however, they do not contain any perishable items and can be safely left at room temperature as well. All products should be left sealed in airtight bags or containers to preserve their freshness.

What is the best way to eat them?

All products are best when eaten at room temperature for optimal flavor, however, feel free to experiment by putting the cookies and sweet treats in the fridge or freezer!

Are these products certified gluten free?

No, they are not certified gluten free, however all of these products are naturally gluten free, meaning that none of the ingredients contain gluten. Clean Eats products are also made in a gluten free facility, and nearly all of the ingredients used are certified gluten free as well.

Why are these products more expensive and high calorie that what I see in grocery stores?

Actually, as David Wolfe famously said, “maybe we should stop wondering about real food being expensive and start asking why processed food is so cheap”.  The truth is, the ingredients that go into Clean Eats products are costly in and of themselves, not to mention that a good portion of them are also organic, unsulphured, and GMO free which inherently means they’re more expensive.  Regular food like cookies and granola is also usually full of “fillers” like oats, wheat and white flour which are incredibly cheap and have little or no nutritional value while boasting the fact that they’re low calorie. As you may notice, Clean Eats products are quite the opposite – if ever you’re wondering why the portion sizes are small, the caloric content is high, and the products are “expensive”, it’s because Clean Eats uses nothing but healthy, nutrient dense ingredients which don’t require huge servings in order to get full.
